We are so happy to announce that Walk Woof Wag is back on October 30th, 2021!

Join us for the beloved annual dog festival and walk through Bidwell Park– now in its 8th year of joy for a cause, benefitting the Chico Animal Shelter on Fair St.

This year’s event will feature a variety of activities for dogs and their humans to enjoy together, and a group walk through Lower Bidwell Park. Dress up your pooch and enter the Dog Costume Contest, and practice your tricks and commands so you’re ready to play a group game of ‘Simon Says Woof’! Dog water and treats are free for registrants, and humans can purchase food and coffee for themselves as well. When you register before September 30th, you’re guaranteed a comemmorative T-shirt in your chosen size and style with this year’s Poster Dog, Olaf on it. More merch is available in our online store right here or for purchase at the event itself.

2020 was a year that tested our community’s resilience, and Chico Animal Shelter (CAS) stepped up to the plate in so many ways to help animals in need.  When the North Complex Fires burned through Butte County in September 2020, CAS reached out to take in injured and displaced animals.

One of the dogs that came to CAS from the fires was Olaf, a big, sweet Siberian Husky.  This pup had four burned paws and an injury to his eye from what seemed to have been an ember.  His paws healed up nicely, but his right eye needed to be removed… though it didn’t slow him down a bit!  Throughout his treatment and recovery, Olaf stayed true to himself – a friendly, loving dog who seemed to know that the people caring for him were doing everything they could to help. He became a favorite of CAS volunteers, and staff member Kaitlyn says she gave him his name because he “loves giving and receiving hugs. He’s so gentle about jumping up to give them!” Olaf’s original owners were not able to be found, but thanks to the care and love he received at CAS, he was adopted into his forever home this February.

When you participate in this Chico tradition, you directly help animals like Olaf because every dollar of proceeds goes toward CAS’s medical fund so they can continue to heal, house, and find homes for dogs and cats who have nowhere else to go.

Since its inception, Walk Woof Wag has raised $55,000 for Chico Animal Shelter’s medical fund. That’s important because this fund depends 100% on donations. Help us continue to help these animals, by being a part of Walk Woof Wag 2021!
